Over the Pentecost weekend, the annual JKS Switzerland Summer Camp took place in Luzern. This year, we had the privilege of welcoming Yamaguchi Sensei (7th Dan) among us. Yamaguchi Sensei is an instructor at the Honbu Dojo and Chief of the International Department. It was a great honor to have him with us.

Approximately 100 participants took part in our Summer Camp and were enthralled by Yamaguchi Sensei’s training sessions. We were impressed by his power, fluidity, speed, and precision evident in every technique and movement.

On Saturday, in addition to the fundamental Kihon exercises that form the basis of Karate, we also engaged in Kumite (fighting) and various partner drills. Once again, we recognized that a strong foundation in the basics is essential for good Karate, a point emphasized by Yamaguchi Sensei.

Sunday provided us with the opportunity to learn the Sensho Kata, which belongs to the Koten-Kata group. For many of us, this was uncharted territory as it was developed by Asai Shihan and is an integral part of the JKS. In the afternoon, we also had the chance to explore the application of several Shotokan Katas through Bunkai.

Monday allowed us to learn not only a few more Shotokan Katas but also the Roshu Kata, which also falls within the Koten-Kata group.

It was an incredible weekend during which we were able to learn a great deal, and we are immensely grateful to Yamaguchi Sensei for sharing his expertise with us.

At this point, we would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations to the 12 JKS Switzerland members who successfully passed their Dan and Examiner examinations.

Oss!
